LMGA: Around the Greens

This month I want all LMGA members to be aware of our second major event of the season. Stag Day will take place on February 17th. This is a really fun day with four-man teams competing for some serious prizes. The day’s events include a steak dinner at Picnic Point. If you have not yet put together your team, you should do so while the selections are still good. And please don’t rely on the pro shop to do this for you.

Ladies, did you know that while the guys are out golfing on Saturday morning the pro shop offers ladies clinics every Saturday at 9:00 on the driving range. Sign up at the pro shop.

As I sat in the restaurant this morning eating breakfast, following my early morning dermatology appointment, I thought to myself that a little advice on skin care might be appropriate. Googling skin care I found this interesting article from the New York Times about skin care tests and recommendations.

Nancy Redd is a writer who covers health and grooming for the NYT. She has tested dozens of products.

The best sunscreen is the one you’ll apply liberally and often, so it should be affordable but still feel and smell good on your skin.

After extensive brand-concealed panel testing, she recommends the physical sunscreen Blue Lizard Sensitive Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50+ and the chemical sunscreen Banana Boat Light As Air Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50, as best covering most preferences.

What to look for: • SPF 30+ The American Academy of Dermatology suggests wearing sunscreens that advertise a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher.

• Broad spectrum Choose a sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB radiation.

• Water resistance

Even if you don’t plan to sweat or swim, water- resistant sunscreens have better staying power on skin.

Hit ‘em straight my friends!
