Now that the New Year’s Ball has officially dropped and we are in 2025, it is time to assess first-half results and other halfway markers for the 2024-25 Bridge Club season. We can be proud of our record for the first half of the season. We fielded between 7 and 11 tables from October through December of the period, producing 19 winning pair results (see below).
Highlights included one pair with a 70 percent or higher game, two new Club members joining in December (welcome to Ted Levy and Miles Thomson), and a great Christmas party put on by the Board in the Green Room of the Helm Club. If you would like to run for the Board for next year, VP Tim Whiteis will be accepting nominations for the election in March, so please submit your name or that of your nominee to him within the next month. Look for more on the election in the next column.
Many club members are getting ready to play on February 10-16 in the Southwest Regional, which had been postponed this past fall by Hurricane Milton, but is now coming back to life. Our members are chasing points from Orlando to Daytona to the west coast of Florida. We also continued to run a one-day silver tournament at the local level this past December as we had in past years. Our sanctioning body, the American Contract Bridge League is doing all it can to make masterpoint events more available in online tournament formats as online tournaments periodically during the year, so watch for these events, which usually offer red, silver, and gold awards.
