November is recognized as Veterans and Military Families Month in the United States, in honor of the sacrifices of United States veterans and their families. It is always a meaningful time for veterans wherever they are, but for Landings vets, this November was especially meaningful.
It was early in the month that our association was formally recognized by the Landings Yacht, Golf and Tennis Club (LYGTC) management as an official Landings amenity. Landings vets were always highly respected, but achieving this status was especially meaningful, giving this group the recognition and status that sets us apart.
Veterans are a vital and respected part of Landings life. We all gave up a good part of our lives and careers in the service of our country. We have earned the respect of our fellow countrymen. Equally important, we have earned several benefits assured by a grateful nation. The Association will seek to assist where possible in veterans gaining access to these benefits.
Thus, the Landings Veterans Association was formed with a simple mission – “To promote recognition and appreciation of the sacrifice and commitment of our Landings vets”
Toward this objective, future plans for the Association call for:
• Continuation and enhancement of our November Veterans Day commemoration at Picnic Pointe.
• Information sessions on VA benefits, to include enrollment, disability compensation, and Community Care (the VA’s best kept secret) and other topics veterans may want.
• Meetings and recognition events as appropriate.
The information part of the mission will rely heavily on an “informal grapevine,” and the association encourages all vets to become part of it by registering with their village veterans’ coordinator. The effort to create a roster of Landings vets, by village, has already commenced. The Association thanks the individual village coordinators who have already stepped forward.
Be sure to check out the Landings Vets page on the LYGTC website. Look for it under the “Stay Connected” and “Clubs and Groups” tabs.
All Landings vets are urged to join your fellow Landings veterans and become part of the Landings Veterans Association. You won’t be sorry! Join today.
