Longboat

Note from Ann Power: Carole Lundgren wrote this article, which I’m happy to submit for publication in Happy Landings.

On November 12, 2025, Longboat residents Mike and Lynda Redmon opened their home for a fundraiser titled, “A Ride for Kristin.” The event benefited Jim and Mary Pat Willis’s daughter, Kristin McKenzie. Kristin suffered an aneurysm and stroke in October of 2024. She is the mother of Mykie, age 4, and wife of Scott.

Our generous Landings community came out in droves to support the event. Proceeds of the fundraiser will help provide Kristin with a mobility scooter, hitch rack, vehicle modifications, medical bills, additional home safety, and mobility improvements, as well as ongoing rehabilitation therapy.

As part of the fundraiser, the committee was able to help Mary Pat sell some of Kristin’s collection of Stony-Clover brand bags, which were also sold at the Christmas bazaar. Additionally, the fundraiser provided an opportunity to participate in a fun raffle managed by Christy Norcutt. The raffle items were donated by Landings residents Thomas and Renate List, Kim Aus and Gary Boyes, Ann Super and Demerey Smith, and Christy Norcutt and Stephen Wiatroski. And, of course, there was an opportunity to “Fill the Bowl” with cash or check donations.

Jan Ion, Carol Jones and Cheryl Tromley took care of the “Fill the Bowl” table.

Snacks and beverages were donated and served by “The Worker Bee Committee” members: Judy Davison, Jan Ion, Carole Lundgren, Carol Method, Al Newman, Christy Norcutt, Lynda Redmon, Mike Redmon, Baxter Shelfer, Ann Spang, Cheryl Tromley, and Anne Warden. Additional snack and beverage donations were received from Marilee and Donald Simon, Joan and Alan Woodford, Bonnie and Sandy Muhlman, Mary and Bob Spada, and Nancy and Gary Suhadolnik.

The event was an ENORMOUS success! Sales and donations (including an anonymously donated scooter lift and the Christmas bazaar) exceeded $30,000.

Jim and Mary Pat, although totally flabbergasted, could not be more humbled and thankful for the turnout and everyone’s love and support. As always, Lynda and Mike Redmon are second to none in making everyone feel welcome in their beautiful new home.

Thank you, Landings community … you ROCK!
