Pat Bailer saved a stroke by hitting out of the lake!

The first important business to report is to welcome Justin Glover to our Landings golf as our Head Professional. Many of us remember Justin when he was with us years ago in the pro shop and was an amazing employee with such professionalism and character. We are pleased to have him lead the future of our golf experience at The Landings. Congratulations and thank you Justin!

During the closure of our course each month, many of our lake banks have been refurbished to prevent erosion. With the drought conditions we have had this winter, this appeared to be the best time to tackle this immense project. Taking advantage of the low lake levels was Pat Bailer. Saving a stroke, she hit her ball “out of the sandy lake” toward the #12 green, where she managed a great score on that difficult hole. You never know what the game of golf can bring on any given day.

“Play Away with a Pro” is a welcome and returning activity for the summer when members can play with any of The Landings golf pros at another fun outstanding course around Fort Myers. Sign up and enjoy the outing at a different Southwest Florida course. There will be “Ladies Play Away Days” and “Men’s Play Away Days” each month.

Play continues on our Wednesday mornings. There has been a nice turnout the past month with some great playing. Sign up as usual on ForeTees by noon on Monday. This is a great time to invite a new resident who is hesitant about joining a league, and get to know some of the gals. It is great camaraderie and you get to play a variety of games, individual and team events. The pro shop staff will answer any questions and direct you to the person in the know. Winning Low Gross play was Martha Whipple with a 74 and Lynne Denk with 75. “Low Putt” winners were Lynne Denk, Pat Bailer, Belinda Stacey and Cathy Steeves.

It has been brought to my attention that there is a league policy now that “Ladies 80 or older may choose to play the 1A tees.” If you decide to play 1A tees, you must tell the pro shop staff as soon as you decide so that Golf Genius will correct your handicap. When you post on other than league days, remember to indicate 1A.

I am writing while back in Colorado, and it was nice to have Dotty Fritze and Diane Giebner back here with us at our Homestead Golf Club league. I’ll share a photo of why our play was canceled, a bit different from your reasons.

Colorado snow canceled May golf.

We had a foot of snow here in May, and a second smaller amount a few days later so many disappointed ladies as a result. However, we are back to enjoying our weekly gatherings, lunch, and, oh yes, the game we love … Golf!

Happy 250th Birthday to our amazing country!
