As we come to the end of another spectacular season at Trawler Village, we bid farewell to many of our friends from the north, many of whom infused life into our community on a daily basis. One such person, who moved back to Connecticut a year or so ago, but had tremendous impact on Trawler, is Judy Whitcomb. The family provided the following to be shared.
Judy Whitcomb, a longtime Trawler resident, passed away on April 8. She was living with her daughter, Carissa, in Wallingford, Connecticut at the time of her death. Judy and her husband Richard first came to Trawler in the winter of 1996 and were here every winter thereafter until Richard passed away in 2012 and Judy moved up to be with Carissa in April 2024. If you are counting, Judy was here in Trawler for 28 years! Judy was a school librarian and administrator for a large school system during her working years but went on to have 32 wonderful years of retirement. Over the years Judy served on the Board at Trawler and on the Landscape Committee of both The Landings and Trawler. Friends and acquaintances will remember her as a competitive tennis player, a daily practitioner of water aerobics and a woman who loved to dance at pool parties. Judy spent much of her free time painting and designing clay jewelry. Many of us will have fond memories of her as we continue to enjoy those paintings or wear that jewelry. While up north, she had spectacular perennial gardens. Judy is survived by her three children, John R. Whitcomb III, Carissa Neubig and Lisa Whitcomb, six grandchildren, their spouses, and five great-grandchildren. You will likely see Lisa and Carissa and their families around Trawler from time to time as they are keeping the unit. Condolences can be sent to the family to Carissa Neubig, 10 Signal Hill Road, Wallingford, CT 06492.
As our snowbirds hasten north, we can look back at a wonderful spring which brought many youthful visitors to the village. Spring break visitors from a wide variety of age groups flocked to the pool and enjoyed the beautiful weather we experienced this season. The sounds and energy of youth have a magical effect on most of our residents and certainly smiles and laughter are the most obvious reactions to youth’s presence.

Our landscape committee has been very busy beautifying the complex and Wally Lucente can be seen with his ever-present watering can. Jean Boushay and Mary Lou Longworth are attending to various plantings, and Kathy Jerr wields her weeding tool, keeping the pool and other spaces pristine. The new barrier plants which provide protection from errant golf balls on the 13th tee, are growing beautifully.
For those of us who remain here in Trawler, we wish our absent brethren best wishes for whatever plans they have for summer. I wish you all Fair Winds and Following Seas.
